Privacy Policy
Your reading is your own.
Kaishu was built to be private by default. The short version: the app collects no data about you. No accounts, no analytics, no tracking. Everything you read and save stays on your device.
In short
- Kaishu collects no personal data.
- There is no account and no sign-in.
- The app contains no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party trackers.
- Your books, words, history, progress, and settings are stored only on your device.
What stays on your device
When you use Kaishu, the following is stored locally, in the app’s private data container on your iPhone:
- The books you import or add, and any cover images you set.
- Your reading position (saved as a character index) and your bookmarks.
- Words you have looked up or saved, and your look-up history.
- Reading-time statistics and the session log.
- Your settings: appearance, accent color, reader theme, font size, and line spacing.
This data never leaves your device through Kaishu. Like all app data on iOS, it is included in your encrypted iCloud (or Finder) backup if you have one — and only you control those backups. Deleting the app removes all of this data.
What we never collect
The shipping version of Kaishu does not:
- Collect, transmit, or sell any personal or usage data.
- Require an account, email address, or any sign-in.
- Include analytics SDKs, advertising, or tracking libraries.
- Access the network for the purpose of collecting information about you.
- Track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
A note on cloud features
The version of Kaishu available on the App Store is fully offline. Features that would involve a server — syncing across devices, online news, and AI translation — exist only in development builds and are not included in the app you download. They are removed at build time.
If a future update introduces any feature that sends data off your device, it will be clearly optional, off by default, and described here in plain language before it ships.
Children
Kaishu is suitable for all ages and collects no data from anyone — children included. There is no data collection to which a parent could object, and no parental gate is required.
Third parties & the dictionary
Word look-ups use CC-CEDICT, a community-maintained Chinese–English dictionary (about 125,000 entries). A copy is bundled with the app for offline use, licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0. Looking up a word happens entirely on your device; the dictionary is not queried over the network.
Kaishu does not share any data with third parties, because it does not collect any.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the “last updated” date above will change with it, and any meaningful change will be described here in plain language.
